In my last post I talked about our latest website updates which allowed you to post to your MyRVAdvantage website using Desktop applications like Word 2007 and Windows Live Writer. Formatting, adding images, layout out posts and much more as possible using Windows Live Writer. For example, I posted this information using Windows Live Writer.
In this post I'll show you how to connect Windows Live Writer to your MyRVAdvantage website.
- To begin with, download and install Windows Live Writer. It's free from Microsoft and can be downloaded here: http://www.windowslive.com/Explore/Writer
- You will need to create (or sign in) a Windows Live account for this to work.
- Follow the instructions to install Windows Live Writer.
- Once you have download and installed WLW you need to connect it to your MyRVAdvantage website. It only takes a few minutes.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must already have a registered account and have the News Articles module installed on your website for this to work!!!
Step One:
The install will ask you if you already have a blog. Select another weblog service.
Click Next.
Step Two:
The configuration wizard will ask you to enter the homepage, username and password for your blog. Enter in the full path to your site (e.g. http://www.mywebsite.com) and enter your MyRVAdvantage website username and password in the username and password fields.
NOTE: Your username and password must match your website account registration for Windows Live Write to publish to your blog.
Click Next.
Step Three:
Select Meta Weblog API from the Type of Weblog that you are using dropdown list.
NOTE: Windows Live Writer needs to know your Remote Posting URL for your site.
The address will be something like this:
http://www.mywebsite.com/metapost.ashx?key=news articles
Enter this address into the Remote Posting URL for your weblog field.
Click Next.
Click Finish. Window Live Write will interrogate your blog and configure itself for publishing,
That's it! You have successfully connected Windows Live Writer to your website. In future blog posts I'll show you some of the advantages of using WLW to post content.
